fMRI and DTI: From Research to Clinical Practice

Bergen fMRI Group, University of Bergen and NordicNeuroLab AS Joint Seminar
March 13th – 14th 2012
University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway

We invite clinicians and researchers to an introductory seminar on fMRI and DTI, focusing on clinical applications of these methods. Participant will be given a basic understanding of fMRI and DTI, as well as gain knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of these methods.

In addition to lectures given by international and local experts in the fields, the workshop will include live demonstrations of fMRI and DTI at a 3T MR scanner, and introduction to software for post processing of fMRI and DTI data.

Keynote Speakers

Dr. Marco Catani is head of the Natbrainlab at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, and Consultant Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital, London, UK. His research interests focus on imaging of white matter anatomy with DTI tractography, language, disconnection syndromes and history of neurosciences.
Dr. Johan Eriksson
is an assistant professor at Umeå Center for Functional Brain Imaging at Umeå University, Sweden. His research interests focus on cognitive neuroscience of consciousness, memory, and cognition.
Dr. Srinivasan Mukundan is section head of Neuroradiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and an Associate Professor of Radiology at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, US. His major clinical interest is in the application of advanced MRI, including BOLD fMRI and DTI, to evaluate neurological diseases.

About the organizers:
Bergen fMRI Group

Bergen fMRI group is an interdisciplinary research group at the University of Bergen (UiB) and Haukeland University Hospital with interests in fMRI. The research is focused on brain activation studies related to a broad specter of cognitive functions, including laterality, speech and language, working memory, attention, cognitive control and emotions. The group is also involved in research related to voxel-based morphometry, perfusion/diffusion imaging, DTI, spectroscopy, EEG and neuroinformatics. The group is led by Professor Kenneth Hugdahl.

NNL Logo NordicNeuroLab AS was founded more than 10 years ago, as a spin-off company from the activities of Bergen fMRI group. Today, with more than 20 employees and customers in over 40 countries, the company delivers state of the art post-processing and visualization software for BOLD, Diffusion/DTI, and Perfusion/DCE imaging and fMRI hardware for audio and visual stimulation, eye tracking, and patient response. The products are used both in clinical routine as well as in research settings. By close collaborates with research groups, clinical teams and MR manufacturers, they develop and manufacture hardware and software solutions that meet the needs of experienced centers as well as providing training programs to make fMRI easy for more novice users. The company is led by CEO Fredrik Isdal.
